Matt Rhodes Gets Emotional this Father’s Day

When American-born singer Matt Rhodes rose to fame as one of the original members of the rock band Southdown, he had no idea he would be a father today or that his new radio release “Daughter” would become the new anthem for Father’s Day. “With the loss of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna, the world felt it, we all felt it. The love between a father and child is unbreakable. This song draws us closer to our fathers, our daughters, and our children. It reminds us how precious our kids are. -Matt Rhodes

Rhodes impressive solo music career launched recently after being signed to Los Angeles based Silverstone Records USA only weeks ago. His summer 2020 debut to radio “Daughter” has already made an early mark on many radio stations nationally, as the song uniquely is crossing-over to multiple radio formats (genres) including Top 40/Pop, Hot Adult Contemporary, and Billboard’s Rock Indicator Chart as a “most added” and a “most increased plays” track, proving its mass appeal.

Matt Rhodes was the youngest member of the band Southdown. He became a fan favorite for his on stage guitar wheeling antics, wide smile and sweet-yet-naughty demeanor. He assisted lead vocals and ripped huge guitar riffs on the band’s first album and radio singles. Rhodes was key in their sell-out shows with knock-out guitar solos according to fans. Today, the singer-songwriter and national recording artist from Houma, Louisiana says he has added another dynamic layer in his style that seems to be appealing to radio and listeners around the Nation.

“Matt always digs deep within real life events to write music. From love to loss, and even the occasional party song… Rhodes incorporates something for everyone” says co-writer Myke Fay-Z… he brings our lyrics and thoughts to life.” Matt first picked up a guitar as a teenager and soon began playing songs by artists who truly influenced him as a young boy. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, and Jimi Hendrix, a few artists he says he draws energy from as a vocalist and very talented lead guitarist. Rhodes honed his skills while touring and recording with the state sensation Southdown, who garnered tremendous local and regional success. The band was originally also signed by Silverstone as well, but after some rock band turmoil and three of the members died suddenly under difficult circumstances, Rhodes abandoned that project and grieved quietly, away from the public eye.

On a self-induced sabbatical from music and band life for a few years, Rhodes focused on raising his beloved daughter and being a good dad as a single father. Finally, with a push from long time friend and writing partner Myke Fay-Z, they began work on new music and taking regular trips to Memphis to record. This bloomed into a fresh new refined sound that offers a relatable listening experience to Matt Rhodes fans.
