On Thursday night, June 18th, country icon Willie Nelson stopped by The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to chat about his recent business endeavors, new album, and to perform for the show audience. Willie’s new album, Ride Me Back Home, will be available this Friday, June 21st.
Nelson chatted with Fallon about how much he loves living on his ultra-luxe coach (“I enjoy living on the bus”) and how smoking weed saved his life.
“I used to smoke two to three packs of cigarettes a day and drank whatever there was there to drink,” Nelson said. “I had pneumonia four, five times, my lung collapsed, I almost died. So I said, ‘Wait a minute. I ain’t getting that high off of Chesterfields.’ So I threw out the cigarettes, rolled up 20 joins, stuck it in there and I haven’t smoked a cigarette since.”
Nelson has his own brand of marijuana, Willie’s Reserve, where he said he serves as “CTO” — chief testing officer, of course.
“I was lucky enough to be gifted this and it changed my life. Thank you very much for that gift. I was floating for weeks,” Fallon told his guest about his the effect Willie’s Reserve had on him.
Nelson then took the Tonight Show stage with the ballad “My Favorite Picture of You,” which is featured on his upcoming album. The project has the singer performing originals as well as surprise covers, including Billy Joel’s “Just the Way You Are.”
