Josey Greenwell Announces Debut Track Will Support LGBTQ Youth

Singer-songwriter Josey Greenwell today announced that a percentage of proceeds from Where We Going, the debut track from his upcoming album, City Games will benefit the New York LGBT Community Center with the goal of mentoring and encouraging LGBTQ youth to pursue mainstream music careers. Kentucky-native Greenwell spent several years in the music industry in Nashville before relocating to New York in early 2015. City Games is the second album release by Greenwell and showcases an evolution from his country roots to pop. His first album, My Life on the Radio, was released in 2009 and was followed by his EP Road Map in 2014, under the imprint GMV Nashville.

“City Games marks a change of direction both in my music, but also finding my voice as an openly gay artist,” said Greenwell. “I’m coming back to songwriting in a place where I am secure enough with my own sexuality to confidently speak about my journey and in partnership with The Center hopefully inspire a new generation of young LGBTQ musicians. When I released Road Map, I wasn’t comfortable with my sexuality and felt pressure to not only mask it, but write without desired pronouns. It takes time to be comfortable with who you are, but ultimately living your life the way you want to is more important than living it the way someone else wants you to.”

Where We Going was co-written by Josey Greenwell, Joakim Olovsson and Par Westerlund and produced by FMLY Sthlm. Westerlund is the mastermind behind several One Direction and The Wanted hits.
