Lady Gaga Feels Like She’s “Still Recovering” From ‘A Star Is Born’

“I wanted to be an actress before I wanted to be a musician, so this was a big dream of mine,” Lady Gaga told The Hollywood Reporter’s Actress Roundtable on stepping into the role of Ally for Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut A Star Is Born. “I felt really excited and really ready for this part.”

Since Gaga became a household name in the music industry, she has “created characters” for herself onstage “because I did not make it as an actress, so I made characters that I could be — so I could be one. They were always some way related to the woman that I wanted to sing to, and a part of me.”

But when it came to her role as Ally, it was more of a “collaborative process” with Cooper. “It was a sanctuary of trust, and so when I saw that trust with Bradley, I said, ‘OK, I’m going to have to become someone that I do not have complete control over,’” she said. That onscreen character she created is one that she still hasn’t been able to shake. “I still feel like I’m recovering from playing this role,” Gaga added.
