Facebook Wants to Lasso You

So, you like to sing and dance around your bedroom, do ya? Maybe video yourself and share with your friends? Facebook knows all about it, and wants to help you get ready for your next lip sync battle.

“Anonymous” sources from inside the social media giant say that Facebook is about to launch “Lasso,” a standalone app designed to win over that coveted millennial crowd, that allows users to record themselves dancing and lipsyncing to music to share with their Facebook friends and followers. Lasso will most likely be a standalone app and expanded version of FB’s current Lip Sync Live, which FB just expanded to include lyrics.

Of course, if Lasso took a giant bite out of the fan base of the wildly popular TikTok, a 15-second video app which recently absorbed Musical.ly after a $1 billion acquisition by Chinese company ByteDance, they wouldn’t be sad about it. Sources state Lasso is really modeled after TikTok with a full-screen, fun and funny approach that is focused on creation to appeal to teens. To one up the competition Facebook will have licensing deals secured with all the major labels, which would give them access to songs longer than TikTok’s 15-second limit.

So put on your dancing shoes, turn on Lasso and get ready to drop the mic!
