A Few Lynyrd Skynyrd Members Heading to the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame

Lynyrd Skynyrd remains in the news this week, as Steve Gaines and backing vocalist Cassie Gaines, both perishing in the legendary 1977 Mississippi plane crash, will be inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame posthumously. Skynyrd’s lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary, and co-pilot William Gray also died October 20th, 1977.

Although an exact date for the induction of the Gaines members is not yet known, what is known is Ronnie Van Zant’s bodyguard Gene Odom said he will attend the function. Those familiar rockers in the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame include Woody Guthrie, David Gates, Leon Russell, Journey’s Neal Schon, and Tommy Allsup (former Buddy Holly Cricket). It’s not known of the current or remaining members will attend the upcoming induction as they are out on a farewell tour.

Lynyrd Skynyrd was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
