Aretha Franklin to be Laid to Rest August 31st in Detroit

Aretha Franklin and Elvis both died on the same day, connecting the two greatest music icons forever. Now the Queen of Soul will be laid to rest in a star-studded ceremony celebrating her life, her funeral, held in Detroit Friday August 31st. The service will be limited to friends, family, and invited dignitaries on the 31st, taking place at the Greater Grace Temple.

The general public will be able to view Aretha for public viewings on August 28th and 29th at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, much like a head of state, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Aretha will be buried at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit, along side her father the most reverend C.L. Franklin, her two sisters and other family members.

Expected to be at the burial are stars like Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, and many other Motown stars. Although many rumors of her poor health were dismissed years earlier, Aretha Franklin died August 16th from pancreatic cancer at the age of 76.
