70s Folk Rock star Jackson Brown has earned many awards; being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, or the Songwriter Hall of Fame, but it’s unlikely that this upcoming honor will be duplicated; he’s been chosen to be recognized with the 2018 Gandhi Peace Award for his work with human causes, the environment, and more. The ceremony will be held on September 14th at the United Church on the Green in New Haven, Connecticut. Jackson will be the first musician to earn this award.
The Gandhi Peace Award has been given to special citizens since 1960, named of course after human rights activist and non-violent politician Mahatma Gandhi, perhaps the greatest force behind peaceful protests where human rights were being violated. Jackson has long been a non-violent protester of the Vietnam War and nuclear proliferation. Previous winners have been 70s activist and journalist Daniel Ellsberg, human rights activist César Chávez, Martin Luther King Jr., Benjamin Spock, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, and politician George McGovern.
