Considered one of the most advanced films of the day, “2001: A Space Odyssey” took Hollywood and middle America by storm in 1968. The movie was directed by legendary Stanley Kubrick, and not only is it celebrating a 50th Birthday this year, it’s coming back in 350 theaters towards the end of summer, it will debut on IMAX screens in San Francisco, Toronto, New York and LA beginning August 24th for a limited run. The film will be shown in full restoration in 70mm print.
How significant was “2001: A Space Odyssey”? The US Library of Congress chose it as a film to be preserved in the National Film Registry, the film was nominated for four Academy Awards, and it appears on every top list of films of all time. The film became the highest grossing film of 1968 and solidified the career of Stanley Kubrick forever.
