In the early days of rock and roll or music in general, artists would book engagements in small clubs or city civic centers, happy to draw a few thousand fans. In the 70s, big acts decided that football or baseball stadiums would be the venue of choice, driving up revenues into the millions for a tour.
Garth Brooks has just announced that he intends to take his show to the largest arenas available, stadiums across this great land of ours. His first show will be at the hallowed grounds of Notre Dame Stadium, then more will be planned through the remainder of the year.
Garth held a press conference this week in Nashville with former Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz and the VP for campus safety Mike Seamon on hand. The take away from the initial plan is to keep ticket prices low, and reward South Bend and the Midwest for their decades of support. The date of the show and who might be joining him on stage has yet to be ironed out, but stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.
