America celebrates the Fourth of July today with parades, fireworks displays, concerts, great food, and lots of beers. We know that the good ole U.S.A. is a winning theme for music of all types, so let’s check out the best patriotic songs of our time…
Miley Cyrus and her song “Party In the U.S.A” from 2009 is a great song. The video pays homage to the movie ‘Grease,’ a film Miley references as a watershed moment for her parents.
Lil Wayne released “God Bless Amerika” with the purpose of making all America stop and think about the path we are on. The video (shot in his hometown of New Orleans) shows him dancing on the flag, although Lil Wayne disputes that fact.
Fall Out Boy’s “Fourth Of July” is a must today, as is “American Oxygen” by Rihanna, “Firework” from Katy Perry, and “American Woman” by Lenny Kravitz should be heard over and over today.
In 2011, “Made in America” by Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Frank Ocean hit the airwaves with positive reviews and record sales. The artists confess that it was the late Michael Jackson and the ‘We Are the World’ phenomena that inspired the project.
Honorable mentions include Estelle and Kanye West’s “American Boy,” Madonna’s “American Lie,” 2 Live Crew’s “Banned in the U.S.A.” Kid Rock’s “Born Free,” and of course the greatest American son, our Star-Spangled Banner; the nation’s anthem.
