The Mystery of Kate Spade

By now we’re fairly depressed about celebrities taking their own lives; CNN’s Anthony Bourdain’s death came out of nowhere, and so did fashion maven Kate Spade’s demise a few weeks ago. Her estate and brand made news this week, as Kate Spade of New York will donate up to $1 million to suicide prevention groups across the country. It’s estimated that the Crisis Text Line, a nonprofit organization, is one of the targeted charities receiving monies. Kate Spade of New York will also match donations to the Crisis Text Line in the weeks of 20 and June 29, totaling up to $100,000.

Kate Spade New York will donate $1 million to suicide prevention groups after its founder’s death by suicide earlier this month. Kate was found by her housekeeper on June 5th, leaving a suicide note with a few cryptic details leaking to the press, but additional tidbits have been scarce.

Kate died at the age of 55, leaving behind husband Andy, and her only child a 13-year-old daughter.
