Chicago’s “Look Away” at the Center of Lawsuit

You may remember the 1987 Chicago song “Look Away” that proved to be a big hit for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group. You can bet an English songwriter named Brenden Greaves remembers the song; he’s suing the band claiming he wrote a song too similar to be a coincidence.

“Look Away,” was a Chicago hit that was actually written by legendary songwriter Diane Warren. Although Brendon was only 14 at the time, he claims that he is owed damages as a result of the alleged theft. Oh, he’s thinking $20 million and all profits from the song are the conditions that will make things all better.

One of the sticking points will be that Brendon submitted his version to the National Schools Make Music Competition in England before the Chicago version.
