In the world of rock, there are superstars like the Beatles, Stones, The Who, Springsteen or U2. In the world of rock there are also bands or singers that never found a sustainable audience, but did hit the charts at least once with a song we call ‘One Hit Wonders.’ Here are more crazy good songs that will remind you of the tune, and probably not the band that recorded it.
“Never Been Any Reason” by a middle-America (Illinois) group called Head East has an interesting back story. The band was playing a gig under another silly name at the time, with members getting tired of the road, looking to get off the Holiday Inn tour. They awoke the night after a live stop, and began arguing about the name of the band of all things, due to the hangover they were feeling. They gathered at the hotel lobby checking out when one of the boys asked where the University of Illinois in IL was? The attendant said ‘Just Head East and you’ll get there.” You could hear a pin drop as they realized that ‘Head East’ was a voice from the heaven’s giving them their new name.
The group, the Fabulous Thunderbirds are wildly popular in Texas and the South in general, hitting the charts in 1986 with ‘Tuff Enuff” featuring Jimmy Vaughn, the older brother of Stevie Ray Vaughn.
