Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 classic album “Rumours’ is headed to the Library of Congress as a piece of audio that will stand the test of time, being honored for being part of our fabric of sound. Think about this for a minute; there would have been no ‘Fleetwood Mac’ had Mick Fleetwood not walked into a famous recording studio and asked the owner what he’d heard that was really different. Did you know that the addition of Lindsey and Stevie was the 11th lineup change for the band? It was the one that stuck.
Stevie wrote the song “Dreams” off the ‘Rumours’ album while in Sly Stone’s bed. No, it’s not what you think. The recording studio built a bedroom for Sly, and while he was out of town, and during an all-night recording session, Stevie used the room and wrote the song. If you think that was the oddest fun fact of the ‘Rumours’ album, you would be wrong. The band fought about thanking their drug dealer in an album cover credit, but the name of the dealer never made it on the sleeve.
“You Make Lovin’ Fun” was the perfect rock song that had tremendous pop chart legs, and made us forget the fading disco era that was coming to an end.
“Don’t Stop” was a radio hit and a political weapon used by the Clinton Administration at the infatuation. The song was used with permission and sounded great anytime it aired.
