It seems there’s a real interest in Hollywood to bring pop music stars and great scripts; now we hear singer Alicia Keys will be co-producing a film based on the life of Alvin Ailey, one of the worlds most respected and recognized choreographers in our time.
Alvin Ailey was born in 1931, battling the odds his whole life to be one of the most accomplished choreographers in modern time. He’s been given credit for taking modern street moves and dance to higher levels of exposure. His greatest accomplishment may be that of advancing African-Americans in dance and production. This groundbreaking star of dance founded the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York City in the late 50s, leaving us at an early age, 58, in 1989.
The biopic is in the early stages of pre-production, with filming set o begin this spring or early fall.
