For a few weeks now, NBC and the producers of the weekday morning ‘Today’ show have been struggling what to do with the departure of longtime talent Matt Lauer; do you go outside the NBC family to find another handsome host, or look internally for a suitable replacement?
The answer to that difficult question arrived on set this week, with the announcement that Hoda Kotb, one half of the ‘Kathy Lee and Hoda’ show, would be the heir apparent to the Today position. Here’s the rub; Hoda will make considerably less than Matt, and significantly less than her peers. Hoda will reportedly make an estimated $7 million per year, as compared to the $25 million per year Matt was pulling down. In fact, Megyn Kelly is making nearly $13 million more per year.
Hoda had immediately filled in for Matt the day after his departure, and wouldn’t you know it the ratings had improved. Good luck Hoda.
