To say that musician Frank Zappa was ahead of his time would be an understatement; the guitarist and songwriter took up topics, riffs, and studio techniques decades before his contemporaries.
We know learn that Frank and his Mothers of Invention’s 1973 shows while at the Los Angeles Roxy nightclub will be released as a terrific box set in 2018. Here’s another example of being ahead of his time; we talk all the time about artists taking a ‘residency’ in Vegas. Well, Frank had already thought of that idea, taking a residency in LA at the Roxy for four shows in two nights in 1973.
The Box set is a seven-disc offering, providing 84 tunes and lots of memories. In Frank’s brief career he recorded 62 albums while alive, and his estate dropped another 40+ posthumously. Frank was only 52 when he died in 1993.
