The Miracles were a major part of the Motown story, standing behind, and sometimes in front, of Smokey Robinson for decades. Sadly, one of the founding original members, Warren ‘Pete’ Moore passed away at the age of 78. When you hear the Smokey Robinson and the Miracles songs, see if you can pick out the deepest voice on the tune; that was Warren.
Warren was also a talented songwriter, writing and giving “Ain’t That Peculiar” and “I’ll Be Doggone,” to Marvin; he also wrote hit tunes for the Temptations along the way. “Ooo Baby Baby,” “Going to a Go-Go,” and “The Tracks of My Tears,” were signature songs for Smokey and the Miracles, selling millions of copies when released in the 60s and early 70s.
Smokey and Warren were childhood friends, growing up in the streets of Detroit, eventually making a career out of singing together. Warren ‘Pete’ Moore was inducted with the other Miracles, into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. There aren’t that many original Motown artists around anymore, and we just lost another. Warren ‘Pete’ Moore; a Motown legend of a different kind, has died at the age of 78.
