Last week we helped spread the rumor that John Mellencamp and Meg Ryan may be engaged, but the real news is that John’s been nominated to be inducted into the ‘Songwriters Hall of Fame,’ in the performer’s songwriting category. John will be considered till mid-December, with the actual ceremony in New York City in June of 2018.
Other notables that have been nominated are Mariah Carey, the Isley Brothers, Alice Cooper, Kool & the Gang, Tom Waits, Chrissie Hynde, and Tracy Chapman.
The Songwriters Hall of Fame was founded in 1969, intended to honor the writers of the American song. Songwriters are eligible for induction after writing hit songs for at least 20 years. There are nine categories for a potential inductee to enter, and previous hall of famers (inducted in one of these nine categories) include Van Morrison, Elton and Bernie, Berry Gordy, Alicia Keys, Taylor Swift, John Legend, John Mayer, Nick Jonas, Jason Mraz, Drake, Ed Sheeran, Phil Collins, and Paul Simon, and to name a few.
