The Stars We’ve Lost So Far This Year

Rock and Roll can be a demanding career, the road, the drugs and alcohol, claiming many a star well before their prime. Here’s a list of the singers we’ve lost so far in 2017…

We lost Tom Petty just a few weeks ago, a few weeks before that Walter Becker of Steely Dan passed away, and to make matters worse, the world of rock and roll lost two of its founding fathers this year; Chuck Berry and Fats Domino.

Gregg Allman passed away in May of this year, Butch Trucks of the Allman Brothers Band died in late January of this year, and we’ll miss lead singer and talented rocker J. Geils who died in April 2017.

There were a few lesser known stars who died this year, worthy of our recognition; Sib Hashian the original drummer of Boston, John Wetton of King Crimson/Asia/Uriah Heep, and George Young of the Easybeats and producer to AC/DC albums (brother of Angus and Malcolm Young) died this past October.

Jimmy Beaumont, lead singer of the Skyliners, Guy Villari, lead singer of the Regents’ Tower of Power’s early lead singer Rick Stevens, and the one and only Glen Campbell passed away in 2017.

Goldy McJohn, original keyboardist with Steppenwolf, Michael Johnson, who hit the charts with “Bluer Than Blue,” and Gary DeCarlo, lead singer with Steam (the group that gave us the legendary “Na Na Hey Hey” Goodbye tune) left us this year as well. Its been a tough year for sure.
