George Young, 60s ‘One Hit Wonder’ Easybeats guitarist, and brother of Malcolm and Angus Young from AC/DC, has died at the age of 70 this week. George was the band’s bassist in the early days, but his biggest contribution was growing into a prolific writer and studio producer for AC/DC.
Sure, Angus and Malcolm spent their careers in the spotlight; it was George who produced AC/DC’s best-selling albums, High Voltage, Let There Be Rock, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, and Powerage.
George was born in Scotland, immigrating to Australia with his family in the late 50s. George threw himself into music as a teenager, forming the ‘Easybeats’ (“Friday on My Mind” the band’s biggest song) playing bass of his brothers’ band AC/DC, then stepping into the studio to produce the albums that made his brothers rich and famous.
No cause of death has been given for Georges’ death.
