The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2018 nominees last, beginning the long wait for those who have been worthy of such accolades for years. The list includes 19 deserving artists, nine nominated for the very first time.
Two of the 19 overall nominees are Bon Jovi and the Motor City’s MC5. The original name for Bon Jovi was ‘Johnny Electric,’ but they changed it. The band has sold over 75 million records and finished a successful tour this past summer. Bon Jovi has earned American Music, Billboard, MTV, Grammy, Brit, and even 2 CMT awards.
The MC5 (Motor City 5) began in the mid-60s in a garage out of Frank ‘Sonic’ Smiths home, causing quite a stir in 1969 with their hit single “Kick Out the Jams” which used a filthy phrase in its original and subsequent live performances. Although their career was short-lived, their political impact in the music they recorded made them outrageously popular.
The Rock and Hall of Fame will announce its 2018 class this December, with the actual induction ceremonies scheduled for Cleveland April 14, 2018.
