The Elton John AIDS Foundation celebrates 25 years in 2017, often times handing out honors for those that have distinguished themselves in helping others. This year there’s a twist to the top honor; the award will go to Elton himself! Elton will be honored for his work with AIDS, and his additional humanitarian efforts over the years.
This year the Foundation’s annual Gala is scheduled for November 7th, held at New York City’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine. New York governor Andrew Cuomo, Bill Clinton, Sharon Stone and more will be on hand to salute Elton, along with the entire cast of ‘The Lion King’ from Broadway. Aretha Franklin is also scheduled to appear as the night’s special musical guest.
The Elton John AIDS Foundation began in 1992 and has raised nearly $400 million dollars for the research and fight against AIDS.
