Remembering Elvis’s Death 40 Years Ago Today

40 years ago today (August 16th, 1977) Elvis Presley died at the incredibly young age of 42; his autopsy and cause of death would later reveal years of pharmaceutical drug abuse and addition. Elvis died in his bathroom in his luxurious Memphis home on August 16, 1977.

Don’t kid yourself; his death didn’t prevent Elvis from making money; each year the Elvis Presley estate earned over $40+ million dollars.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born on January 8th, 1935 from a poor Tupelo, MS family, though his family relocated to Memphis while he was a young teen. In 1954 Elvis made a recording for his mother at Sun Records (Sam Phillips) the secretary was so blown away by his sound, she ran out to get Sam before he left for the night.

Did you know that…

Elvis recorded thousands of songs but never wrote any of them. Elvis was a performer and not at all the writer. He was born a twin losing his twin brother Jesse Garon Presley 30 minutes before his birth. He won three Grammys and earned a Lifetime Achieve Award and is in many Halls of Fame.

Elvis was at once time a truck driver working for the Crown Electric Company? We almost lost Elvis in a tornado when he was 15 years of age in Tupelo, MS. He was prescribed over 10,000 pills the year he died.
