1975 was an odd year for music. Folk music was relatively hot, FM rock was coming of age, and the bane of our existence ‘disco’ was about to explode and throw everyone off the train. Before we jump, here were the best songs from 1975…
“Philadelphia Freedom” by Elton John was again another odd song for its time. The song was much longer than most singles for radio play, inspired by Elton’s friend tennis star Billie Jean King, and received as much airplay on AM stations as well as FM properties.
“Listen to What the Man Said” seemed to be an ambitious song for Paul and Linda McCartney and Wings, as Paul’s solo career was in full swing. “Bohemian Rhapsody” with Queen threw down the gauntlet as the official start to new rock.
“Walk This Way” by Aerosmith, “One of These Nights” from the Eagles, Bad Company’s “Feel Like Making Love,” “Dream Weaver” by Gary Wright, “Kashmir” from Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan’s “Tangled Up in Blue,” and “Shining Star” from Earth Wind and Fire rang out on local radio, selling out live shows and millions of albums.
