The Greats From the Windy City

We’re in the middle of our summer vacation, visiting great cities from Miami to Seattle. How about a stop at the Windy City?

The Windy City, also known as Chicago, has been the birthplace of many a great band or musician. The list of notable Chicago born or Chicago bred bands is long, but here are the ones that stand out to us as we continue our summer vacation through the country…

Obviously the band Chicago is from Chicago, inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. How’s this for success; over 125 million in record sales, yet only one Grammy (“If You Leave Me Now”). Only one original member was actually born in Chicago, and one is gone; Terry Kath accidentally shot himself in 1978.

Styx, Cheap Trick, and REO Speedwagon are from suburbia Chicago, but no conversation about the music of Chicago would be complete without dropping their names. Richard Marx, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Buckingham’s, Ides of March, and Eddie Vedder all hail from the town Al Capone made famous.

Finally – Earth Wind & Wire are also from Chicago.
