Tommy Roe is a Georgia native, credited with being one of the founding fathers of the ‘bubblegum’ music genre. Tommy’s career almost didn’t happen; here’s the scoop…
As an aspiring singer he found enough money to record a song he’d written called “Shelia.” No one in the States would touch it, but oddly enough the song was a hit in Australia. ABC the label here in the US, begged Tommy to sign a deal, but Tommy didn’t want to leave his then secure tech job at GE. The label had to give him a $5,000 signing bonus to persuade him to start a singing career under their label!
Tommy is currently out on tour, and for the first time in a long time you’ll be able to hear “Dizzy,” “Sweet Pea” and “Hooray for Hazel” live. Here are the initial confirmed dates and locations…
May 13th, Marietta, GA (his hometown)
August 24th, Deadwood, SD
