The 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class was announced recently, with Journey, Tupac Shakur, Yes, Pearl Jam, ELO, and Joan Baez all being admitted. There was also a special award for musical excellence to Nile Rogers of Chic.
Those not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame includes deserving artists such as Mary Wells, The Marvelettes, and Jr. Walker and the All Stars. There are a few strong reasons each should be in the Hall…
Mary Wells is from the Motor City (although most Motown artists were not Detroit born and raised) she had great success as a duet partner with Smokey and as solo artists. Mary laid the groundwork for early women in rock, while selling millions of records. Her top songs “Two Lovers” and “My Guy” are hall of fame songs in our book.
If Donna Summer, Diana Ross, Darlene Love and Etta James are allowed in, then so should Mary Wells.
