“Roller Coaster” is the new song from Jon Bon Jovi, hitting the charts a while ago. Jon is out on the road right now during his ‘This House is Not for Sale’ tour, but he’s been around a long time.
John Francis Bongiovi, Jr. grew up in a middle class family in Perth Amboy NJ, his dad a local business man, his mother a real Playboy Bunny. As a young man, Jon found a way to get into a recording studio owned by his cousin Tony Bongiovi, eventually finding his way into a regional band called ‘Scandal’ as a guitarist. Jon wrote the hit tune “Runaway” without being in band; the song was added by a New York station playlist featuring local talent. The song was taking off in the New York area, so Jon quickly had to put a band together. They were going to call themselves the ‘Johnny Electric,’ but someone suggested they call themselves ‘Bon Jovi,’ like the band ‘Van Halen,’ and the rest is rock and roll history.
In 2001, Jon was honored by Monmouth University, receiving an honorary Doctorate of Humanities. In addition to recording and touring, Jon is a big sport fan, becoming the principal owner of the Arena Football League team the ‘Philadelphia Soul’ in 2004.
