There aren’t many college football coaching positions that are as wanted as the University of Texas job and ESPN is reporting that there will be a new head coach soon. After a tough and embarrassing loss to Kansas this past weekend, Charlie Strong is out as head coach of the Texas Longhorns.
The Longhorns head into their last game of the season with a 5-6 record and reeling from an overtime loss to a now 2-9 Kansas team. Charlie Strong just never did enough to win over the hearts of all of the alumni and boosters in his three seasons in Austin. His overall record as the Longhorns’ coach is 16-20 with their lone bowl appearance being a big loss in the Texas Bowl his first year as head coach.
What a tough road it has been for Charlie Strong, but he just couldn’t get the team moving in the right direction after his great seasons at Louisville.
UPDATE: During the Charlie Strong press conference this morning he announced that Texas will make their decision on his future after the TCU game this upcoming weekend. Strong will be the head coach for the game against TCU.
