The list of 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees was announced a few weeks ago, and although they are not all likely to be voted in, let’s share more about the deserving Joe Tex, Steppenwolf and the Zombies.
Joe Tex made the songs “Skinny Legs And All” and “Ain’t Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman)” famous, which made him popular. He was not friends with James Brown, who actually tried to kill Joe with a shotgun in 1963. Joe died at 47 in 1962, but spent his later years as a deeply religious man.
Steppenwolf is nominated this year for the Hall of Fame. Canadian John Kay and the boys in the band have sold over 30 million records, but their claim to fame was their unique sound and use of their songs in Hollywood movies.
The Zombies have perhaps the best chance of the three of getting into the Hall. The voting committee has a soft spot for British 60s bands. Co-founders Rod Argent (piano, organ and vocals) and Colin Blunstone (vocals) have always been admired aloud by peers and current hall members. The Zombies are on Rolling Stones ‘Greatest Rock Bands of All Time’ list.
