Looking Back at a Hall of Fame Band We Know and Love

The 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees list was announced a few weeks ago, and it reminded us of one of our favorite bands.

Steely Dan (Walter Becker and Donald Fagen) were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. The boys in the band have given the world some of the best tunes ever recorded. Did you know that…

When the boys were growing up, they each hated rock, but loved jazz and blues. It was the Beatles that independently altered their world view, inspiring them to popular song writing and performing.

The hit “My Old School” is about the two of them meeting at prestigious Bard College in upstate New York. You may not have known this, but legendary comedian and SNL star Chevy Chase was also a Bard Man, and played drums in their band ‘Leather Canary.’

Needing money and experience, the boys (under assumed names) played and toured with the ‘Jay and the Americans’ band in the late 60s.
