From Struggles to 100+ Million Records Sold

If you’re a Phil Collins fan, you probably know that he was on the ‘Tonight Show’ with Jimmy Fallon a few weeks ago. Phil performed his 80s tune “In The Air Tonight” to support his new memoir ‘Not Dead Yet,’ and upcoming LP and tour.

Phil Collins has earned seven Grammy awards, hitting the Top 40 charts more than any other performer in the 80s, a record that will never fall. There are only two other singers that have sold over 100 million records as a solo performer (Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson).

So, how did it all begin? As a struggling drummer in the early days, Phil saw an ad in the local paper about a progressive rock group called ‘Genesis’ needing a drummer, so he answered the ad, and auditioned at Peter Gabriel’s parent’s house. The rest they say is rock and roll history. What’s the oddest Phil Collins ‘fun fact’? It may be that Phil has an ABBA connection, working with Agnetha Faltskog, an original ABBA member, on her solo LP “Something’s Going On,” a few decades ago.
