The Isley brothers were originally O’Kelly Isley, Jr., Rudolph Isley and Ronald Isley, the family stars that began their musical journey in Cincinnati in the late 50s. Here are (in our opinion) the best songs this wonderful family donated to the world…
“Shout” is the top family song, covered by over 100 singers and bands, heard at every wedding reception over the last 40 years, made famous in the movie classic ‘Animal House.’
“It’s Your Thing” was actually about the labels CEO Berry Gordy overpowering hold or influences on the labels artists. Listen to the lyrics again and you’ll hear the distain for the man.
“Fight the Power” was the first song that successfully got the dirty word “bull sh*t” on the radio. Although the song was written in a ‘truth to power’ moment, it ended up being a commercial success.
“(Who’s) That Lady” appeared in the “Anchorman” sequel with Will Ferrell, it solidified what the song really was about. It was a great rock/soul song from the 70s that changed the direction of funk forever.
