The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees were announced earlier this week, and while it made us think about the great stars in the Hall, it also had us thinking about those that we no longer get to see perform.
2016 has not been kind, as we’ve seen many a talented singer, songwriter or performer pass away. Here is the list of great stars this far that have joined that rock and roll band in Heaven this year…
David Bowie left this world early on this year, but Ziggy Stardust will live in the great songs recorded. Oddly enough, his grandson named his son (David’s great grandson) after the star.
“Always and Forever” and “Boogie Nights” were great tunes from the 70s, given to us by Heatwave. The founder and keyboardist Rod Templeton died in September.
Prince died in his Minneapolis home in April due to what doctors are calling an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. What a shocking moment for his fans.
The son of legendary singer Frank Sinatra, Frank Jr. died suddenly at the age of 72. Frank Jr. liked to make cameo appearances as himself in the HBO series The Sopranos.
Maurice White of the iconic soul band Earth Wind & Fire died this year, as did Paul Kantner of Jefferson Airplane, Glenn Frey from the Eagles, John Denver’s on stage partner Pete Huttlinger, Sugarloaf’s Jerry Corbetta, Joan Marie Johnson of the Dixie Cups, Glen Yarbrough, Carman Romano of the Elegants, Spiral Staircase’s Pat Upton, and Billy Paul have all passed on.
