We lost David Bowie this year and later we learned that his son Duncan became a father, naming the child with David’s given name. Each month we learn more about the man behind the “Ziggy Stardust” mask. Here’s a David Bowie story you may not have heard…
The producers of the upcoming Bing Crosby TV Christmas special in October of 1977 were trying to come up with a ratings spike guest for the special. What if they could get David Bowie on the show? Bing agreed, although he hated rock and Roll. The one condition was that they would sing a duet to the song “Little Drummer Boy.” David agreed to the appearance, but would not sing that song (he hated the song) so they came up with a compromise – David would sing “Peace On Earth” at the same time Bing would sing “Drummer Boy,” They had one rehearsal then did it live effortlessly to the amazement to the executive producers.
