Remembering the Great John Saunders

This week has been very tough for true sports fans as big names in baseball have retired or announced it for the end of the season and on Wednesday it got worse. The great John Saunders passed away at the age of 61.

Saunders had an amazing voice that was only overshadowed by his genuine care for the people he worked with and his personality. He was also an athlete himself, playing hockey for Western Michigan from 1974-1976.

Saunders was a key member of ABC and ESPN during his years as a journalist. He replaced Dick Schaap on The Sports Reporters after he fell into medical trouble and never looked back. Throughout the years, he would do work with the Toronto Raptors as the play-by-play announcer, appear on SportsCenter as well as college football work on ABC among many other gigs he held.

It’s with a heavy heart that we see him go. The sports world lost a great one this week.
