Over the weekend, Alex Rodriguez announced that he would be retiring from baseball as of this Friday. The move is not a surprising one as Mark Teixeira recently announced he would be retiring at the end of the season just a few days ago. These two are great players who are past their prime and hanging up the cleats before it gets too ugly.
Rodriguez has tried hard to bounce back from injuries and a suspension over the past few seasons, but he could never get back to his earlier form. When you talk about Alex Rodriguez, you talk about one of the greatest players ever. Unfortunately though, you also talk about steroids and lies. The man that is just four home runs shy of 700 should be a first ballot Hall of Fame player on stats alone will face scrutiny because of his past. That’s not to say that he shouldn’t be punished for breaking the rules of baseball though.
As of the end of this past weekend, Rodriguez has a career .295 average with 696 home runs and 2,084 RBI.
