More Greats That Hail From Philadelphia

As the Democratic National Convention continues this week in Philadelphia, we couldn’t help but want to detail the great music this historic city provided in the 60s and 70s.

So, what can you say about Hall and Oates that hasn’t already been said? This dynamic duo is responsible for over $100 million in record sales, Grammy and Billboard awards, and was the most successful singing duo in the 70s and 80s.

Boyz II Men hit the charts in the early 90s, featuring the powerful harmonies of Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman. Their 90s album II included the award winning singles. “I’ll Make Love to You,” and “On Bended Knee.” How popular was this group? Boyz II Men became only the third artists ever to replace themselves at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, (after Elvis and The Beatles.

The Delfonics, Patti Labelle, Tami Terrell and David Ruffin are originally from Philly, as were Frankie Avalon, Pearl Bailey, and The Intruders.

Hollywood has a long list of icons that were born in Philly, including Bradley Cooper, Richard Gere, and Kevin Hart.
