The Greatest Talent From Chicago

This summer vacation we’ve be traveling across the country checking out cool cites, getting to know the musicians that hail from that town. We needed gas in Chicago, so let’s filler it up, get some chips for the trip, and share the best acts back stories…

Obviously the band Chicago is from Chicago. They were recently inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. How’s this for success; over 125 million in record sales, yet only one Grammy, “If You Leave Me Now.” Only one original member was actually born in Chicago, and Terry Kath accidentally shot himself to death in 1978.

Earth Wind & Fire was founded by the late Maurice White (died February 2016) with over 100 million in record sales, and induction into the Rock and Roll, Vocal Group, and Songwriters halls of fame. They also have a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.

The 80s and 90s band Survivor began in Chicago, selling over 40 million records and having tremendous popularity with the Rock theme ‘Eye of the Tiger.” Founding member Jim Peterik was the lead singer of the 60s/70s group ‘Ides of March.’

Jennifer Hudson, Richard Marx, and Kanye West also hail from the Windy City.
