The Tom Hanks produced movie ‘That Thing You Do,’ plus the Cameron Crowe semi-autobiographical movie ‘Almost Famous,’ are two great rock and roll movies. What about the times rock and Broadway made good business partners? Here’s our short list…
Freddie Mercury, Brian May and Queen’s “We Will Rock You” production in 2002 had the songs and storyline, but it played in the West End of London never making it to Broadway. It did however have a fairly extensive run through the United States in local theaters and in Las Vegas before it closed.
Phil Collins was the driving force behind ‘Tarzan the Musical’ as Phil wrote many of the songs in the theatre production, based on the 1999 Disney animated movie. The production did eventually make Broadway with nearly 500 showings until it closed in 2007.
