David Bowie lost his life to cancer earlier in the year. We should always remember the great music he left behind…
“Rebel Rebel” from 1974, at the height of his Ziggy days, was light years ahead of what was being heard on the FM when it was released. We owe a great deal of gratitude to the late Mick Ronson for his guitar open and solos on the song. Mick died at the age of 46 in 1993 to liver cancer. Most people don’t know that Mick was a devout Mormon.
“Under Pressure” is the best duet that Freddie Mercury ever recorded. It just happened to be with our man David. Queen is the backup band in the song, played by Queen at every live performance after its arrival. David on the other hand, never played the song at his live shows until the day Freddie died.
In what can be described as one of the most somber moments in all of rock, David got down on his bent knee in the middle of that night’s concert, said the ‘Lord’s Prayer’ aloud, and then to a stunned and motionless crowd, performed the song.
