What Would Have Been Prince’s 58th Birthday

Prince Rogers Nelson would have been 58 this week (June 7) had he not tragically died a while ago. To celebrate his life and musical accomplishments, Tidal the streaming service made available 15 of his albums for streaming on his birthday, while other artists spoke of his genius and generosity.

Prince died April 21st from what the ME has indicated as an accidental overdose of the painkiller fentanyl, a powerful opioid that is significantly stronger than heroin. Price had been battling a hip injury that created a great deal of pain for the artist, a condition he had struggled with for years. As always when a person of wealth dies leaving no will, those that claim to be owned money, or are ‘so called’ descendants, come out of the woodwork. The claimants to his assets include Prince’s sister, Tyka Nelson, a few half-siblings, and a Colorado prison inmate who claims that Prince is his father. Prince had earned Grammy, Billboard, Soul and literally every award imaginable during his brief career. His record sales easily top 100 million.

Prince never slept. It’s suspected that he had been up for over six days prior to his death, and it’s widely known that he would be up for days on end without sleep while recording or in the studio.

Larry Graham, former bassist with Sly & the Family Stone, introduced Prince to the Jehovah’s Witnesses in the early 2000s.

His fascination with the color Purple came from his admiration and fascination with his favorite NFL team, the Minnesota Vikings.
