A Band That Was Pop, Rock, and Vibe!

Imagine a rock band that straddled punk and pop, rock and vibe? That’s one of our favorite bands Talking Heads! David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Tina Weymouth, and Jerry Harrison began in the early 70s playing music with a purpose and a message.

If there was a category called ‘Intellectual Rock,’ Talking Heads would be the gold standard. Fate also played a hand in the popularity of Talking Heads, as the band’s first album in 1977, “Talking Heads: 77,” contained the single “Psycho Killer,” which became a blessing and a curse as it hit the charts in the middle of the ‘Son of Sam’ killings in New York. Although the song had been written four years earlier, the band became the subject of whisper and innuendo, and it put the group on Page 6.

The band has released eight albums, and if you’re a fan you should check out the book “What the Songs Look Like: Contemporary Artists Interpret Talking Heads Songs.” The Talking Heads were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
