Bands that hit the charts with a great song and then go back to their day jobs are what we call one hit wonders. We love these bands no matter how little success they had past that one song because the hit always seems to make it into our heads. Let’s talk about these hits more…
“Incense and Peppermints” is a psychedelic rock song from 1967, and the only hit from the one hit wonder group Strawberry Alarm Clock. In Los Angles in 1966, with two bands going nowhere, ‘Thee Sixpence’ and ‘Waterfyrd Traene’ joined forces to become Strawberry Alarm Clock. “Incense and Peppermints” hit the charts, but there were massive disagreements as to the wiring credits, the label sued the band, the band sued back. Shamefully, while on tour, the band on the night after Martin Luther King’s assignation in 1967, ran out and bought hand guns to finish the southern tour, wearing them on their hips on stage during their performances.
