A Few Rockers Who Have Passed in 2016

We’ve been struggling with the death of Prince, David Bowie, and Glenn Frey thus far in 2016. We also miss…

John Bonham who died due to a massive drug and alcohol binge from the band Led Zeppelin, Randy Rhodes (plane accident) of Black Sabbath, the Rolling Stones Brian Jones (accidental drowning) Chris Bell of Big Star (auto accident) and Ron “Pigpen” McKernan of the Grateful Dead all had surviving band members carry on.

We dearly miss the quiet and shy guitarist Lonnie Mack, who recently died at the age of 74. Lonnie gave us the incredible “Memphis” in the early 60s, and influenced many of the contemporary guitarists of his time.

Freddie Mercury left this world well before his time, but gave us “We Are the Champions,” “Changes,” and “Bohemian Rhapsody,” before he left. Although Queen continues to this day, the band has had Bad Company’s Paul Rogers, David Bowie, Annie Lennox, George Michael, and currently Adam Lambert work hard to fill void left with Freddie’s departure.

The Allman Brothers lost Duane to a motorcycle accident then just over a year later Berry Oakley died in an almost identical way. Yet the Allman Brothers continued to tour and pau homage tether fallen brothers on tour until her eventual break up in 1976.
