Chicago’s Push to the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame

The 31st class of the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame will be inducted at the Brooklyn at Barclays Center on April 8th. This year’s honorees are Chicago, Cheap Trick, Deep Purple, Steve Miller, and N.W.A. There are 312 total members enshrined in the hall, 113 of these are groups. Not yet in the Hall are The Cars, The Monkees, Def Leppard, Yes, Duran Duran and the Spinners. Today, let’s share a little bit about Chicago…

Although nominated for countless Grammys, the boys have earned only one. The song “IF You Leave Me Now’ was the winner. Chicago has sold over 125 million albums in their lengthy career.

Original member Terry Kath died in an accidental self-inflicted gunshot in 1978. Terry thought the gun was unloaded.

The band originally was called ‘The Big Thing’ then ‘Chicago Transit Authority.’ The real Chicago Transit Authority began legal proceeding against the band, so they chose to save the money and changed their name to simply ‘Chicago.’

In an unheard of move, their debut album was a double sided release.

“Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?,” “Questions 67 and 68,” and “Beginnings” all came from their debut album.
