We just started talking about U2, Bono, and the boys, but we want to tell you more. Here are a few things about U2 you may not have known…
In 1977, the band as we know as U2 was called ‘Feedback,’ then ‘Hype,’ and eventually evolved to ‘U2’ as its name. How did the boys come up with U2? Well, one of Adam’s friends was a punk rocker by the name of Steve Averill. Steve was with the punk band the Radiators at the time, and when asked to come up with a new names for the band Hype, he came up with a few. U2 was the name the boys in the band disliked the least.
U2 won a local talent show on St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland in 1978; the prize consisted of money and studio time which the boys used to get their first record label interest.
“Joshua Tree,” one of their most successful albums, is inspired by an actual tree found in the desert. The band claims it’s immensely inspirational. U2 has won 22 of the 34 Grammy and nominations more than any other group in music history.
