Spider-Man is refusing to surrender the box office crown.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” remained the top movie in North America for a fourth straight weekend, collecting an estimated $39 million from 4,006 theaters in the United States and Canada.
The superhero blockbuster has now earned more than $854.9 million domestically, putting it within striking distance of another major piece of box office history. It is approaching the domestic total of “Avengers: Endgame,” with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” still holding the all-time North American record at $936.7 million.
While Spider-Man continued to dominate, horror delivered a strong new arrival.
“Insidious: Out of the Further,” the sixth installment in the long-running franchise, debuted in second place with $25.3 million from 3,303 North American theaters. The movie added another $35 million from international markets. With a reported $18 million production budget, it is also the most expensive entry in the “Insidious” series.
Christopher Nolan had plenty to celebrate as well.
“The Odyssey” earned another $19.5 million during its sixth weekend in North American theaters, good enough for third place. Its domestic total has climbed to nearly $539.1 million, surpassing “The Dark Knight” as Nolan’s highest-grossing movie in North America without adjusting previous releases for inflation.
Its international performance has been even more formidable. Strong business overseas, including major contributions from China and Korea, has helped “The Odyssey” reach approximately $1.4 billion worldwide.
That makes it Nolan’s biggest global box office success to date. The film has also moved past “Deadpool & Wolverine” to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever.
Not every newcomer enjoyed such spectacular numbers.
Jason Statham’s “Mutiny” arrived in sixth place with $7.5 million from 2,703 locations. Its theatrical launch came after an unusual mishap in which the movie was accidentally available to watch for free on Prime Video for several hours shortly before opening weekend. The online availability was eventually corrected.
Comedy “Spa Weekend,” featuring Isla Fisher, Leslie Mann, Anna Faris and Michelle Buteau, opened with an estimated $3.1 million from 2,009 locations. Its audience was overwhelmingly female, with women accounting for about 84% of opening-weekend ticket buyers.
Beyond the individual winners and losers, Hollywood is enjoying a notably strong summer.
North American summer movie ticket sales have reached an estimated $4.4 billion, placing the season among the four highest-grossing summers on record. Total box office revenue for 2026 has also crossed $7 billion, running more than 20% ahead of the same point in 2025.
The industry has not completely returned to its pre-pandemic heights, with overall revenue still trailing 2019 levels. But packed theaters, major franchise performances and Nolan’s latest milestone suggest moviegoing has regained some serious momentum.
And for now, Spider-Man is sitting comfortably at the center of it.
